Wednesday night (due to weather postponement) the Hawks opened district play with a win against Pittsburg. Blake Jennings started the game on the mound for Pleasant Grove, and initially did not have things going his way. The defending State Champions never batted an eye as they rallied behind Jennings in typical Pleasant Grove fashion; DEFENSE! Huge plays were made all over the diamond. Senior Alex Galvan made great plays from right field, Traveler Couch was a vacuum at first, even a bare handed snag and punch out from Jarret Halter. Jennings would recover and find a groove a couple of innings into his 5 inning stretch and would end the ballgame with 4 strikeouts! Offensively the Hawks were consistent throughout the game. Big hits came at the hands of Brock Bearden and JM Long, who also ended the game with 2 RBI’s a piece. Alex Galvan would pick up a 3 bagger for Pleasant Grove as well. Aidan Murray would close it out on the bump with 2 solid innings, forcing a flyout to center field to end the ballgame. The Gameday crew caught up with Head Coach Riley Fincher after the win; “It’s always good to get the first one under your belt; Especially when we haven’t been playing great this season, but tonight we played extremely well”. The Hawks will be back in action 3/15/22 @Paris!
