Jeremiyah Love’s Late Touchdown Lifts No. 7 Notre Dame Over No. 20 Texas A&M in Season Opener
Jeremiyah Love broke a late tie with a 21-yard touchdown run with just 1:54 remaining, securing a 23-13 victory for No. 7 Notre Dame over No. 20 Texas A&M on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
Love powered through the line, eluding two would-be tacklers before gliding into the end zone, giving the Fighting Irish a decisive lead.
Texas A&M Struggles on Offense
Quarterback Conner Weigman and the Texas A&M offense struggled to find their rhythm against Notre Dame’s stout defense. The Aggies managed only one touchdown, a 1-yard run by Le’Veon Moss with about 12 minutes remaining. Weigman, returning after missing most of last season with a foot injury, threw for just 100 yards and committed two turnovers, leaving room for improvement before SEC play begins.
Elko’s Coaching Debut
Saturday marked the debut of Texas A&M’s new head coach, Mike Elko, who was hired from Duke this offseason following the dismissal of Jimbo Fisher late last season. Elko aimed to elevate the Aggies after a disappointing 7-6 finish last year. Despite the loss, Elko’s team faced a formidable opponent in Notre Dame, starting the season with a challenging 0-1 record.
